"Standards Set Standards Met” identifies our unique partnership because we are a dynamic blend of SMACNA Standards, SMACNA Contractors who understand them and Union workers trained to fabricate and install to those standards. Training is the backbone of the quality service we provide and continuing education in key skill sets is what keeps us at the forefront of today’s newest technologies.


Bay Area SMACNA offers members a range of professional assistance including:

  • SMACNA provides one of the most well respected training programs in the construction industry.
  • Technical standards and manuals. SMACNA standards and manuals address all facets of the sheet metal industry, from duct construction and installation to air pollution control, from energy recovery to roofing. These standards have been adopted worldwide by sthe construction industry, as well as by foreign government agencies. ANSI, the American National Standards Institute, has accredited SMACNA as a standards-setting organization.
  • SMACNA maintains a Technical Resources Department that fields several thousand technical questions annually from architects, engineers, manufacturers and government personnel.
  • A vast array of publications – technical manuals, guides on business management, contract administration and safety manuals.
  • Educational programs (safety, marketing and business management) and no-cost tuition assistance.

SMWIA Local No. 104—An experienced, trained and qualified labor pool:

  • SMWIA workers are professionally trained union craftsman with five years of classroom study and on-the-job training before becoming a fully skilled journeyman.
  • The 5-year apprenticeship program, with a minimum of 1,200 hours of related classroom instruction, ensures that SMWIA craftsman are skilled in the latest techniques.
  • Union training includes the following:
    • CAD & newer generations of computer driven technologies
    • Materials Layout (Bench and Computer, among others)
    • Copper Roofs and Copper Architectural Gutter and Trim
    • Field Layout
    • Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC)
